When it comes to ice skating bags, it helps to have a decent one. Having a good ice skating bag, that is well made and serves the purpose, will be helpful. Choosing the right bag can be a great investment for years to come.
After personally trying these ice skating bags, I can recommend the Transpack and the SFR skate bag. A full description of these bags and review video will help you to decide.
class="wp-block-heading">Best Ice skating bags – The Transpack
The transpack has got to be one of the top ice skating bags. I have had my Transpack for years. It has worn well, is still very functional and looks great. It does an exceptional job at a modest price.
This is my transpack, I have used it 3 or more times a week for at least five years. It wears really well. I haven’t really looked after it at all, it has taken so much beating, yet it still works great.
The best ice skating bag for carrying on your back
Yes the Transpack is a rucksack. So you can carry it on your back, with two padded over the shoulder straps. Ofcourse, like any rucksack you can sling it over one shoulder.
If you have a bit of walking to do however, or have your hands full with something else, the Transpack rucksack straps are grate. The skates fall more or less either side of your back. So it sits pretty comfortably on your back.
Great for breath-ability
If you have read any of my keeping your blades in good condition articles like ‘How do I stop my ice skate blades from rusting’ which you can read here then you will know how I favor breathable skate bags.
As you can see, the upper part of each of the skate compartments is made completely of mesh. This allows the the skate to dry out whilst stored in the bag. This prevents your blades from rusting.
The best ice skating bag for internal storage
The trans pack has loads of internal storage, as you can see below:
The bag will easily hold your blade guards, a note book, drinks bottle and more. There is also an extra internal storage pocket.
The internal storage pocket is great for keeping things separate. I use mine to keep my phone, wallet and car keys in, so I don’t have to search through the bag for them later.
A hard wearing ice skating bag
These Transpacks are really hard wearing ice skating bags. I don’t put guards on my blades, to stop the blades from rusting. I only put soakers on. Even though the sharp tail of the blades always rubs in the same spot in the bag for five or so years, it has only just started to develop tiny holes. As you can see below.
Even then, the hole is too small to get my little finger in. This is a seriously hard wearing skate bag.

The best light weight ice skating bag – The SFR
This is a bargain of a bag, its strong, light weight, pack-able, hard wearing and low cost.
The best ice skating bag for travel
There are plenty of small ice skate bags out there. From personal experience, I have used this one, the SFR. I purchased it to attend a figure skating competition abroad. It is light and folds flat in your suitcase.
It is a lot less bulky than the Transpack, which makes it ideal for air travel. There is a plastic reinforcing section in the bottom of the bag that can be flipped on its side, or removed for flat packing in a suitcase.
A great ice skating bag for breath-ability
As I stated in the article ‘How do stop my ice skate blades from rusting’. It is important that you have a bag that is breathable and that you store your ice skates in soakers, not blade guards.
The SFR bag is a great little bag in terms of breath-ablity. The top sections of the bag are made of mesh, which allows movement of air and your blades to dry out.
There is also a perforated stud at the bottom of the bag to allow movement of air.
A strong ice skating bag
If you prefer a smaller light weight bag for every day use, I think that the SFR skate bag would be up to the task. It has thick, strong material and is generally well made.
In the above image, you can also see that the bag has sturdy plastic studs that are used as feet for the bag to stand on.
A useful pocket, rare on smaller bags
There is a zip on the back of the bag. This gives access to a relatively large pocket that runs almost the entire hieght of the bag. It is easily big enough for a phone, wallet and keys.
Decent internal storage
There is enough room for your ice skates and you can fit some blade guards and a cleaning cloth on the main compartment as well.
The SFR ice skating bag has a sturdy adjustable carry strap
The strap itself is made of a woven nylon type material. It is strong and easily adjustable to the the most comfortable length.
